Challenge

The war for talent is stronger than ever. Like many organisations, Bolton Clarke was facing challenges to attract, retain and engage top talent. The Strategy Group was engaged to design an employee onboarding journey map to create alignment across disconnected and fragmented teams and business units and provide ‘quick wins’ to solve some of the immediate pain points and feed requirements into the larger EX development project. ​

Approach

Understanding the needs of new employees  using a collaborative human-centred design approach and methodology

To build a representative visualisation of the current state, The Strategy Group employed a human-centred design approach to research, leveraging a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods with key stakeholders across the Bolton Clarke onboarding journey and recent starters joining the Bolton Clarke family.​

Through the research, The Strategy Group identified pain points and opportunities for improvement at each stage and touchpoint in the journey. The journey map was built based on the research data gathered and validated through consultation and collaborative working sessions with key stakeholders.​

Following the research and development of the current-state onboarding journey map, The Strategy Group and Bolton Clarke stakeholders used the map to align on, and prioritise key pains and ideate ‘quick win’ and ‘long-term’ solutions.​

Outcomes

A current-state onboarding journey map to mobilise meaningful change for new Bolton Clarke employees​

The Strategy Group’s collaborative and customer-centric approach to designing and validating the current-state onboarding process and journey helped align key Bolton Clarke stakeholders on the primary pains and needs of new starters and helped them prioritise which touchpoints to address.​​

Alongside the detailed onboarding journey map, a comprehensive implementation plan was co-created to mobilise actions and create accountability to improve the experience for new Bolton Clarke employees.​
